China defends violation of Indian airspace

Beijing, June 5 (IANS): Days after two PLA choppers violated Indian airspace by hovering over the Sino-India border, China on Monday said it can carry out patrols in disputed territory.

"The details can be obtained from the Ministry of Defence. In principle, China and India have territorial disputes in the eastern section of the China-India border," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said here.

"The Chinese military can carry out regular patrolling in the relevant areas. We hope that the two sides will make joint efforts to maintain tranquillity and peace in the border areas."

Two helicopters of the People's Liberation Army were spotted hovering over bordering Badahoti area of Chamoli district on Saturday morning in Uttarakhand state.

The Indian Air Force has launched a probe.
