Bengaluru, Jun 8: A case of banned manual scavenging has been reported from Tavarakatte in Chamundi Hill Gram Panchayat limits on Tuesday, June 6. Unbelievably the gram panchayat president is the one who made a civic worker to clean the manhole near her house.
Chamundi Hill GP president Geetha asked civic worker Ganesh to get into a manhole near her house to clean it on Tuesday. Ganesh without any choice started cleaning the manhole. Only because a passerby captured the video, the incident could be reported.
Ganesh, working on contract basis, was threatened by Geetha that he would be dismissed if he failed to clean the manhole. It is said Ganesh and another civic worker Cheluvaraju cleaned the manhole from 9.30 am to 12 noon. While Ganesh got into the manhole, Cheluvaraju assisted him, it is gathered. An?unidentified passerby recorded the incident and sent to his friends.
Zilla Parishad CEO P Shivashankar said that as the PDO was on leave due to an accident, he has asked the government to take stern action against the gram panchayat president.
