Pregnant women should control lust, shun eggs: Govt booklet

New Delhi, Jun 14 (PTI): Pregnant women should control lust, hang "beautiful" pictures on the wall and shun non- vegetarian food if they wish to have a healthy baby, a booklet released by the government's AYUSH ministry says.

The booklet -- 'Mother and Child Care' -- was distributed at a recent function here, presided over by the Minister of State for AYUSH, Shripad Naik, ahead of the International Day for Yoga observed on June 21.

"Pregnant women should detach themselves from desire, anger, attachment, hatred and lust. Avoid bad company and be with good people," the tract, issued by the government-funded Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy, says.

Minister Naik told PTI that the booklet, published three years ago, is a compilation of yoga practices that are believed to help pregnant women.

"The Booklet does not contain any advice on abstaining from sex," he said.

The booklet has a list of items that it believes pregnant women should steer clear of.

"Avoid tea, coffee, sugar, white flour products, garam masala, fried and oily items, egg and non-veg etc," it says.
It advises them to have "spiritual" thoughts and read the life histories of "great personalities".

The booklet recommends hanging "good and beautiful pictures" on bedroom walls, which, it says, will also have a positive impact on the foetus.

"The booklet puts together relevant facts culled out from clinical practice in the fields of yoga and naturopathy. It also contains wisdom accumulated over many centuries of yogic practice," Naik says.

Good advice and wonder anyone will accept or practice. Its totally based on Ayurveda so egg and meat is not advised. I have read the details in other webpage and its has better contents to be practiced by pregnant woman. Not necessarily avoid egg but the commercially gown chicken eggs are not recommend.
Its always said and cautioned SMOKING AND ALCOHOL are INJURIOUS TO HEALTH but still its consumed at large., can we blame govt for it..

Eggs are a vital source of protein for both mother and unborn child.

Expectant mothers are advised NOT TO LISTEN to these semi-literate, insane sanghies and instead consult qualified Doctors. Meanwhile, it's high time that rss/bjp walas stay away from people's bedrooms and kitchen.

    Stupid suggestions should be ignored.
Stupid amendments in the laws should be opposed with a protest.

When you are busy, seriously protest against each and everything, you might ignore serious issues, because your concentration is not on issues but about the party which has formed the government.

It is important for Pregnant women to eat eggs and Non vegetarian food to have enough protein & iron in blood for herself and the baby. Indian women & new born babies have lack of iron in Blood. Pregnant women should consult Glynocologists and qualified medical doctors not the Government and AYUSH. Lust is natural need and sex is Biological need for women and it bring emotional health, Physical exercise and bonding toward husband. Emotionally and physically healthy women should never avoid sex with healthy male counterpart. Pregnant women shoud control masterbating and man should avoid unnatural sex.

Pregnant women should eat between 200 & 300 additional calories every day to nourish their body & the baby as well. Eggs contain around 70 calories which is healthy for meeting the daily requirement ...

Why should Govt. dictate Pregnant women should control lust? Why the Govt. interfere in womens personal choice? What they should not eat and should eat. Does Indian women not aware what is good for their pregnancy? Instead of messing with individual personal choice Govt. should concentrate on development of good hospitals in every taluk, supply nutritious food to pregnant poor women and good health care to poor and low income citizens.

Good advices but do not force the pregnant woman to implement it as it's totally her personal choice because since ages our women are giving healthy and beauty babies and each pregnant woman better know herself what to do. If you forcing to implement you advice, then unfortunately I have to say nothing but "Banjinal ponnunala nikl budupujjatha maaraya":)
