Kolkata, Jun 14 (IANS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday prayed for the safety of people trapped in a major fire in a London apartment building.

"Seeing reports about a big fire in a tower block in London. Our prayers with the people. Lets all be safe #londonfire," Banerjee tweeted.

A massive fire broke out in a 24-storey apartment building in London on Wednesday, with flames seen from the second floor to the top of the building, officials said.

The firefighters were battling to rescue people trapped inside the tower block in west London.
