Mangalore, Apr 14: Dakshina Kannada District JMFC Court has sentenced 4 months of imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 35,000 on Abdul Basheer, Assistant Police Officer, Wireless division, Udupi, over a cheque bounce case.

Mr Basheer had leased out a residential apartment at Thumbay Plaza apartment at Alape-Padil Road on 18.06.03 to one Mr M A Doddamani and accordingly while entering into the lease, Mr Basheer had demanded a security deposit of Rs 1.30 lakh from Mr Doddamani, which he had paid in two cheques.

After the expiry of the lease period on 30.06.05, Mr Basheer failed to refund the security deposit. When Mr Doddamani pursued Mr Basheer to pay the security deposit, his wife, Ayesha Basheer issued a cheque for Rs 1.30 lakh of State Bank of India, which was dishonoured due to insufficient funds.

Mr Doddamani filed a complaint against Basheer couple at the Mangalore Rural Police Station. When the police called upon the couple, they had said that they would settle the issue within few days.

Later, Mr Basheer issued another cheque for the said amount from Andhra Bank, Hampankatta, which too was dishonoured, following which Mr Doddamani issued a legal notice. In spite of the legal notice being served, Mr Basheer failed to repay the amount.

After the hearing, the court of law rendered justice to Mr Doddamani and sentenced Mr Basheer to 4 months of imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 35,000.
