Eight Afghan US base guards killed

Kabul, June 20 (IANS): At least eight security guards of Bagram Air Base, the largest US military base in Afghanistan, were killed by Taliban militants while on their way to work, an official said on Tuesday.

The attack, in which two other guards were injured, took place on Monday night in Shahkoh village, in Parwan province, while they were on their way to the base, the official told Efe news.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement in which he accused the victims of spying for the US.

In November 2016, a suicide bombing inside the base killed four Americans and injured 17 people.
