Cattle sale: TN will act on people's wish

Chennai, June 20 (IANS): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami on Tuesday said his government will act according to people's wish after the courts decide on a central government order banning the sale of cattle for slaughter.

This is the first time Palaniswami has come out with the state government's position on the issue.

Responding to DMK members in the state assembly, Palaniswami said even the central government was considering changes in the rules.

He said there were cases in the Supreme Court and the Madras High Court against the Centre's order.

The Chief Minister said his government would take appropriate steps once the courts delivered their ruling.

Palaniswami also said the government would act taking into account the wishes of the majority of the people. The opposition members were not satisfied with his reply.

When Speaker P. Dhanapal denied them permission to raise the issue again, DMK and Congress MLAs walked out.

Three legislators supporting the ruling AIADMK also trooped out expressing dissatisfaction with Palaniswami's response.

The three include actor-cum-politician Karunas, Thamimum Ansari and U. Thaniarasu.
