Mangaluru: Graduation Day of Kalakul held at Kalaangann

Mangaluru, Jul 3: The Graduation Day of Kalakul, Konkani’s lone theatre repertory was held at Kalaangann here on June 30.

Dr Vincent Alva, principal of Milagres College, Kallianpur was the chief guest. Christopher D’Souza Neenasam, chief trainer of Kalakul presented the annual report.

Dr Vincent Alva honoured the outgoing trained artistes with diploma certificates. The certificates were given to seven artistes who had successfully completed their theatre training in 2016-17 batch. They were Flavia Rodrigues, Frivita D’Souza, Rohan Jacob D’Souza, Jackson D’Cunha, Sheldon Tauro, Swarna Rita Veigas and Vikas Preetham Lasrado.


    








































Frivita D’Souza was awarded Best Kalakul Artiste of the Year. The award included Rs 3,000 in cash. The best co-worker award was shared by Flavia Rodrigues and Jackson D’Cunha, with a cash prize of Rs 1,000 each.

Dr Vincent Alva, in his speech said that being a theatre artiste gives self-satisfaction. He expressed his regret in being unable to continue in the field of theatre due to his other commitments. He said that he was happy that young artistes have chosen to be in this profession. James Mendonca (Dubai), Remy Rodrigues (Dubai), Eshan Fernandes (Dubai) and Prakash Shenoy expressed their views as an audience of Kalakul plays.

The actors for 2017-18 batch of Kalakul were also welcomed on the occasion. They are – Jackson D’Cunha, Swarna Rita Veigas, Alron Rodrigues, Flavia Violet Mascarenhas, Rohan Jacob D’Souza, Reshma Wilma D’Souza, Manish Pinto, Vikas Preetham Lasrado, Flavia Rodrigues, Prakash K Veigas and Sharal Liza Fernandes.

Arun Raj Rodrigues, playwright and administrator of Kalakul welcomed the gathering and compered the programme and expressed his gratitude to all who worked and supported Kalakul.

Eric Ozario, gurkar of Mandd Sobhann, Kishore Fernandes, secretary of Mandd Sobhann, and James Mendonca of Mangalore Konkans, Dubai were present on the dais.

This year, Kalakul repertory has produced four major plays, two short plays and has presented 12 shows.
