Nitish calls meeting of JD-U officials on CBI raids on Lalu

Patna, July 7 (IANS): Taking serious note of the CBI raids on RJD chief Lalu Prasad, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called his party JD-U spokespersons, the state Home Secretary and DGP to discuss how to tackle the situation, officials said on Friday.

"Nitish Kumar held a meeting with JD-U spokespersons and instructed them on how to react to the CBI raids at the Lalu-Rabri residence," a party official said.

Nitish is camping in Rajgir in Nalanda district, about 100 km from here, since Thursday afternoon,

The Janata Dal-United has yet to say a word on the CBI raids on Lalu Prasad, whose RJD is partner of the ruling Grand Alliance. It is expected that the JD-U will react as per directives of Nitish Kumar, the JD-U President.

Nitish Kumar has been heading the ruling Grand Alliance of JD-U, RJD and Congress government in Bihar.

The opposition BJP has demanded that Nitish Kumar end his party's alliance with the RJD and act against Lalu's two sons who are ministers in his cabinet.

RJD leaders, including a minister Mundirika Yadav, have termed the CBI raids on Lalu Prasad's residence as a political conspiracy and vendetta to silence Lalu Prasad for attacking the RSS, BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Laluji is a mass leader of the poorest of poor. The BJP-led central government is using the CBI to create trouble for Laluji and frame him under false charges," Mundirika said.

"As Laluji is organizing a 'BJP bhagao desh bachao' rally in Patna on August 27, the BJP-led central government has been trying to frame Laluji, and the CBI raids are part of it. In fact, the CBI has become an agency to act against political rivals of the BJP," RJD spokesperson Shakti Yadav said.

Both RJD leaders, Mundirika and Shakti, said the party's proposed anti-BJP rally will be held as per schedule.

RJD will reply to the RSS, BJP and Modi by holding the biggest ever rally in August, they said.
