Four of family die in Delhi fire


New Delhi, July 7 (IANS): Four members of a family, including two children, were killed and two other persons injured in a fire in a residential premises in east Delhi in the early hours of Friday, the police said.

"Those who died in the fire on the second floor of a residential building in Dilshad Colony area of Seemapuri around 3 a.m. are Vijay Verma, 63, Sanjay Verma, 40, Harshu, 12, and Chiku, 4," Deputy Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad told IANS.

All four were declared brought dead at an area hospital. Another family member, Mona Verma, suffered 40 per cent burn injuries and was admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital here.

The family's neighbour Binesh Rathi too suffered minor burn injuries. 

The blaze caused by an electrical short circuiting was brought under control after over an hour of battle, Prasad added.

A forensic team has collected samples from the spot as part of its probe. 

Prasad said a case of negligent conduct and causing death by negligence has been registered.
