Thousands take part in sixth 'Slum Yuva Daud'


New Delhi, July 8 (IANS): Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Saturday flagged off the sixth Mega Slum Yuva Daud along with cricketer Ishant Sharma here.

The marathon started from Hari Nagar Bus Depot and ended at the DDA Staff Club in Janakpuri. Thousands of youth from Delhi slums participated with zeal and vigour. 

The event was attended, among others, by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha, Member of Parliament Parvesh Verma and MLA Manjinder Sirsa.

"This is not just any other run but we are running for a better tomorrow, a New India where each youngster is a capable being and sports being one field in which we must grow big and powerful," Goel said.

The Slum Yuva Daud is part of the Adopt Slum Campaign initiated by the Sports Ministry and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan.

A total of 11 Slum Youth runs have been planned, of which six have already been successful with mass participation.
