Bantwal, Jul 9: The police on Sunday July 9 night found a sharp knife in an auto rickshaw during inspection of vehicles at Panemangalore here and took two persons into custody.

In the wake of untoward incidents that took place at BC Road on Saturday July 9 during the funeral procession of slain RSS worker Sharath, the police have tightened security and begun nakabandi at important points in the district.

Udupi police officials and personnel who are also lending a hand with the security arrangements were inspecting vehicles at the old bridge in Panemangalore, when they found a knife in one of the auto rickshaws.

The police then seized the rickshaw and took its two occupants into custody.

As Sec 144 is still in force in the district, no one is allowed to carry sharp objects or weapons with them in public places.

Bantwal town police are investigating further.

Meanwhile, the police have stepped up investigation into the stone-pelting and stabbing incidents at BC Road and Kaikamba during the procession on July 8. On Sunday evening, the police visited several houses hunting for the accused. A video recording in possession with the police has helped them in noting the culprits involved in the stone-pelting. Based on the video evidence, the police have begun the operation to nab the accused. Police are hunting for the culprits in BC Road, Parliya, Kaikamba and Shantiangadi.
