Kasargod, Jul 10: A young couple allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Kolichal, Panathady here on Monday July 10.

Sunil Kumar (32) and his wife Jayalakshmi (22) were found dead in a room at their house in Kolichal.

It is suspected that financial crisis led the couple to take the extreme step. A death note was also found in which financial problem was stated as the reason for suicide.

When the couple did not emerged from their house for long, the neighbours suspected that something was amiss, and on checking, they found the couple lying dead in one of the rooms. The couple mixed poison in milk and consumed it, police said.

The couple retired to bed with their son on the night of Sunday July 9. The son was unaware that his parents had committed suicide. It is said that when the neighbours went into the house, they found him sleeping.

Sunil Kumar initially ran a computer firm by the name 'Rajpura', and later started a travel agency based out of Kasargod and Payannur.

Sources said that Sunil had taken money from several persons to procure them visas and transferred the amount to a bigger agency for the purpose. The agency allegedly cheated him, because of which he ended up owing a debt of over Rs 50 lac to visa aspirants. His clients constantly contacted him over neither getting their visas nor their money back, and ultimately, he could not cope with the financial pressure, it is suspected.

Rajapuram police have registered a case.
