Beltangady man creates drone to fight pests, paint high-rise buildings

Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady (RJP)

Beltangady, Jul 15:  A young man named Avinash Rao from Nidle near here has developed a multi-purpose drone.

The drone saves areca nut trees from getting infected by pests. It also paints tall buildings with 10 to 15 floors.

Avinash had received a request from the Coconut Development Foundation to find a solution to cure the infected coconut leaves. Avinash succeeded in developing the drone which can cut the infected leaves from the coconut trees.

“But the most difficult job is to remove pesticides from areca nut trees. I made some design changes in the original version of the drone in order to achieve this.”  Avinash informs. He says he has received four patents for the drone.

In addition to the above mentioned roles, the drone can also be used to remove dust accumulated on the blades of wind mills and to check high voltage electric wires.

The drone is priced between Rs 4 to 5 lacs.  It is expected come to the market before April next year.
The IT and BT Department of the state government has recognized the work and awarded Avinash Rao with Rs 50 lacs for Idea to Proof of Concept.

I want to address all the fools over here who criticise Modi for purchasing drones from US.

What you people have to realise is that we need to buy the weapons from foreign manufacturers because they are readily available. There is no need to build research and development centres which can cost billions to setup. The other thing is that of technical know-how which we really seem to lack now. Even if you build every thing and manufacture drone will it be at the same level as the American one? I seriously doubt it will be. In military terms, if you don't have the best you lose. This is true for any military equipment.

I will give you people an example, LCA, which is an indigenous fighter built by India took 30 years to be built, and it uses American jet engine, this is because Indian engine wasn't good enough. So what is the point of building a jet when one has to borrow the engine from the US? And do you know what did US do in these 30 years? They built f-16, f-18, f-22 and f-35.

Some one has mentioned that Pakistan has built drones. Give me a break. If pitted against the American once they will fall from the skies in no time.

Such drones if acquired by some miscreants may use for illegal drug trafficking, terrorist purpose and infringing into others privacy too. There should be total control/regularities in place over the user or buyers of such sophisticated gadgets.

    Dear Readers,
Can anyone make a drone and supply that to me so that I can send that drone every day early morning to Mangalore or Bangalore or Chennai to buy breakfast for me. I want every day morning 4 idlies, 2 vadas and one chow chow bath exactly at 6 a.m. I am, at present stay in Gujarat state. Here if we eat Gujarati breakfast (which we never heard of earlier) every day, we become mad!!!. In Gujarat there no rice items. I also want South Indian lunch at 12 pm and supper at 6 pm. No non-veg, but pure South Indian only from Karnataka, Kerala, Andra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. I do not need North Indian food and North Indian Hindi culture.

A good idea to use drones for fight pests on trees.Other side peoeple of India mostly in south would appriciate to pluck coconuts ,Areca,or some fruits fron high trees. It is a very risky, and become costly affair if at all when you get one.Drone is a good idea for it.

It looks to me that this drone is to spray either liquid or air and not to cut something. The design changes required for areca nut trees may be to change the rotor in drone to a powerful one since the areca nut trees are taller than coconut trees.

I might be wrong, but from what I have seen, areca nut trees grow faster than coconut trees. But to answer your question, there are trees here which are taller than coconut trees.

There is lot of difference between these basic drones and spy drones and drones with missiles...these drones could be used to drive monkeys from Coconut garden....or keep an eye on processions in BC road...or keep a track on Cow thieves....

Sir,When India is in buying spree for 'Made in America' weapons without any technological transfer. Our arch enemy Pakistan has already developed and used Drones. Forget about Pakistan, Iran has successfully copied the downed American version of Drone for its own use.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing gathering of Indian Americans in Silicon Valley said " Brain drain is actually brain gain". Now the statement seems to coming true while all brains working for USA for 'blue book' and 'green back' India is surrounded to western technology.
Though bhakta believe whatever they receive from social media from BJP IT cell is true. For their knowledge,Nehru made sure that defense deals were sourced from multiple countries and oversaw them personally:
    Airforce:
230 Vampire Aircraft manufactured under license from UK
    104 Toofani Aircraft from France
    182 Hunters from UK
    80 Canberras from UK
    110 Mysteres from France
    55 Fairchild Packets from USA
    26 Mi-4 from USSR
    Navy:
    3 R class destroyers
    3 hunt class destroyers
    2 cruisers
    3 Leopard class frigates
    3 Blackwood frigates
1 Aircraft carrier (which BTW is the carrier India used in the '71 war)
    Army:
    180 Sherman tanks from USA
    300 Centurion tanks from UK
    160 AMX tanks from France
Nehru was the best spender on defense and bought equipment from the widest variety of sources. Period.
PM Modi 'Make in India' has now only left for our indigenously built technology of 'bow & arrow', for that also India come empty handed in every Olympics.
If war breaks out with China or Pakistan and ammunition supplies run out, then we can ask Rama Sena to send their army with 'Trishul'.
I appreciate Mr.Rao efforts for common man's vows.
    Jai hind
