Dubai, Apr 29: A conman who tried to sell a piece of onyx stone that he claimed made its wearer bullet-proof, has been bailed. The 52-year-old Yemeni, identified as QM, wanted dhs1.8 billion in return for the stone which he said had a “special power”. During his trial the man had insisted the onyx had a “holy secret” and had challenged the judges to execute him if he was found to be lying.
He advertised the “magic stone” in an Arabic newspaper, telling of its bullet-proof properties. He claimed he had put the onyx on a sheep as a test and the stone’s powers had saved the animal’s life. The man was sentenced to six months and deportation.
But yesterday the Dubai Court of Appeal agreed to release the man on bail until he appears again before the courts on May 12.
