Chennai, May 2: After Shriya Saran, it is the turn of Mallika Sherawat to face the wrath of so-called guardians of Tamil culture over improper attire at a film function. On Thursday, Kanirajan, a young Hindu Makkal Katchi activist submitted a petition at the Periampet police station claiming that her dress and behaviour at an audio event hurt the sentiments of Tamils.
“She sat cross legged on the stage where the chief minsiter was seated,” added the petitioner. The occasion was the audio release function of 'Dasavatharam', starring Kamal Hassan which was held at nehru Indoor Stadium on April 25. Chief minister M Karunanidhi was the chief guest at the event, which was also attended by Jackie Chan, Amitabh Bachchan, Mammooty, Hema Malini and others.

HMK, had shot off a petition in January against Shriya Saran's choice of dress at the silver jubilee celebrations of 'Sivaji' starring Rajnikanth and Shriya. The heroine had swiftly tendered an apology for inadevertently offending the sentiments of the Tamil people, and claimed that she had come straight from a film shoot.
The controversy briefly echoed in the assembly as well, when PMK's MLA Vel Murugan raked up the issue of the actor's choice of dress.
In November last year, the same political outfit had raised a hue and cry over a photograph of actor Khushboo caught seated with her slippers in front of an idol of Hindu deities Lakshmi, Saraswathi and Parvathi, at a film 'muhurat.'
