Mangaluru: Student death - Cops term it suicide; Mohan Alva says ready to face any probe

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 29: Chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, Dr Mohan Alva, expressed readiness to face any kind of investigation relating to the death of student, Kavya, inside the hostel room of his institution. "The administration of the foundation is completely transparent. Unnecessarily our institutions are being targetted by misusing the case of suicide by student, Kavya. Never in the history of our institution has any murder happened. If police, media or individuals want to investigate this suicide from any angle, we are prepared to face it," he asserted.

Alva was reacting to rumours making the rounds about the death of Kavya, a SSLC student, inside her hostel room on July 20. He concurred that when a crime happens, police investigation needs to be conducted. He said that creating confusion in the minds of the general public by spreading false information, and inflicting mental torture on him, who holds a position of responsibility, and Alva's group of institutions, which is being run transparently since the last 25 years, are unjustified. "All 26,000 students studying here and their parents have reposed trust on us. We want that the suicide case of Kavya to be properly investigated and truth is made public at an early date," he stated.

In the meanwhile, city police commissioner, T R Suresh, said that investigation headed by north division assistant police commissioner(ACP), Rajendra, has been ordered into this incident. He said that the parents of the student had met him recently, duly expressing doubts on some points. He said that the ACP and investigating team has been given directions to hold detailed investigation towards ensuring that the parents of the girl get justice.

Local police said that Kavya had committed suicide and that it is not a case of murder. "During the investigation, we found that the sari she used for hanging herself belongs to her roommate. Kavya was depressed about the low marks she got in Hindi examination recently, and there is likelihood of her choosing to end her life for fear of facing parents. About the claim of parents that Kavya had told them that her sports training was scheduled at 4 am, the college administration told us that the training was to be held at 4 pm on Thursday," they added.

"Kavya wore her track suit for attending training, waited for other students to leave the room, and then bolted the door from inside. She then removed the sari of her roommate from a cupboard and hanged herself from the ceiling fan," the police stated. The students who returned from training after half an hour did not get response even after repeatedly knocking at the door. They peeped through the window and found that Kavya had committed suicide. The students found Kavya hanging from the sari but she was still trace of life in her. They immediately used alternative route to reach into the room, brought Kavya down, after which college administration took her to hospital. But she did not respond to efforts made to save her," the police added.

According to me there is no foul play in this suicidal case. May be there are other reasons for her making suicide like love affair etc. Why target the Institution unnecessarily. Such kind of suicidals happened in other Colleg/school hostals also. however let us wait and what is the reason for the kavyas suicidal.

Its a very disturbing news that a young teenager, talented, badminton caption, committs sucide all a sudden:
    Why will Kavya attempt Sucide?
    a. Any Academic Pressure
    b. Heavy regular coaching classes for Sports which bring in distress.
    c.Any Relationship Issue?
    d.Any exams related Stress?
    e. Poverty and fear of letting paretns down...
    WHY???
i wont think so its a suicide attempt ..
May be its a planned murder or accidental murder which cops term it suicide...Please dont save the criminals ...provide Justice...today its kavya and tomorrow it may be someone our own....Public must help Kavya family in appealing the government and seek justice and the police department must work sincerly on this case without taking bribe and closing the chapter ..let this case wont reach to unresolved files ...Please provide justice and handover this case to CBI...

Something wrong has happened definitely. Management will try to hide it to any extent just to save the reputation of their Institutions. Nobody will care for the death of a student when it comes to their business interest. A national level sports girl will not be so weak to commit suicide for the sake of less marks in Hindi. How far the investigation will pursue this case remains to be seen. Everybody knows after a few days everything is forgotten!

With due respect to Dr. Alva, it seems some foul play might have committed by management officials. It was gathered from Kavya's last call conversation with her mother that she was telling her mother that students were allowed to copy in the exam by paying Rs. 500 and the same info she might have shared with other friends (students) which must have been reached to the teacher who in question was involved in the copy scam or the faculty management and he/she/they in turn might have tried hand in finishing her life to avoid serious punishment from the top management and more over to cover institutions bad name in the society.

Its sad about the girl, wish there were ways to avoid depression or any other evil from happening around us. Also, it's easy to taint an institute or person out of personal vendetta.. Seeing some media/citizen vultures out to tear some flesh, real pathetic.

Anything happens in society peopl- let's act civilized at a minimum(Pre-suicide with the girl, and post-suicide with the people around it)- I see a lot of mob justice(wish this mob was made of real peacemakers instead of frustrated ppl) going on these days- totally not needed! We are evolved humans, not a bunch of apes.

To those out for some blood - Even civilized ways can bring out justice- just try it!! Sometimes when you thinkyoure defending the right, youre commiting a wrong thing urself.

This case prima Facie looks like a suicide . My condolences to the girls family . I was recently watching a programme from Praja TV in which all panelists who were terming it as a murder were called and they invited dr Mohan alva and the PT master via teleconference and were grilling them with some sensible and some very insensible questions ! I am totally against the media trials . Let the parents file a case and let the police and court decide . The story is made to look murkier than it actually is by the media . When dr Mohan alva is saying he is ready for any probe then why is this Tamasha . Let the probe happen .. why turning it into a drama? And the panelist of praja TV mr Robert Rosario was acting like a top lawyer on the show . What is his credibility to give a certificate to dr Mohan alva ? Robert is known for breaking groups wherever he goes

My request to the parent of kavya is to not make a Tamasha in public of their child's death but to approach the police and clear all doubts . Nothing happens with media trials

There should be a probe by efficient, honest and upright officials to put an end to the doubts of all and college management and others should compromise their stand and allow proper investigation. There should be an investigation if the trainer asked the girl to be ready for training at 04:30 Am, if that is true then the investigation should be concentrated on that particular aspect only as the usual timing is 06: am. Mr. Robert Rozario has no authority to speak like an investigation agency with college management in the media.

Ur absolutely right ! Now Cctv evidence shows the time kavya was last seen that is evening 3.30 pm and the panelists on praja tv were accusing that it happened much earlier . Will they accept their mistake of wrong accusation ? They say girl was called at 4? Girl herself said it !! But Cctv shows she came at 6.03 ! So either girl has lied or is misinformed !! And protests have to start when the college management is not cooperating for the probe ! Here the college is welcoming the probe !! This is just people getting mileage out of the issue !! I am looking forward for the speacial police committee report !! I don't believe in media trials !!

The problem is that some news channels r trying to imitate. Arnab and r making a mockery of themselves ! Robert Rosario can not accuse a person without any prooof ! What is Robert rosarios contribution to the society in comparison to dr Mohan alva ? Let me once again make my stand clear .. I am saying let there be a probe so that everyone is satisfied but let there not be a Tamasha and disgrace the departed soul but stretching it like a chewing gum ! !

With due respect to Alva's administration and Police department, I see there is no transparency in this murder or suicide, I seriously smell a foul play in the premises. All have to wake up to get some break in this case and justice should be given to Kavya's parents. Here everything has been done by same institution. It is a serious offence and Alva's and police just can not close the chapter say its suicide. Its 100% murder and justice should prevail. I request the government to hand over this case to CBI

The Question is why the news of death withheld fr a week, no proper police inquiry, the Management of the College supports the guilty employees, why the print media in the district hesitate to publish news of college. The SW Officers & Wardens in the college are given free hand to punish innocent students for sake of discipline for college publicity & education marketing. S.W Officer & Wardens who are breaking law should be brought to book without any bias.

As per my knowledge this is not the 1st time (suicide/murder) happening in this college so the CBI has to do a thorough investigation as to know the reason behind the deaths in premises. It's a matter of security of our children.

Her phone will give more details.
There is no death notes , so how did they say about hindi marks etc.? Did she discuss her pain with her classmates or room-mates.? If she had expressed her pain with her friends, then we need to believe that story and conclude the case. But question is who gave that story?
