Mangaluru, Jul 30: Police here arrested a man within few hours after he eve-teased a college student.

Mahesh Pai (24) from Car Street is the person arrested. The incident took place on Saturday, July 30 in city.

The girl student was going to her college from the hostel on Court Road in the morning. Mahesh stopped and harassed her during that time. When the girl shouted for help, some students came to her rescue. But by that time Mahesh had fled in his vehicle.

The college management lodged a police complaint immediately. Bunder police, who arrived, asked the girl student for the face description of the man. Within hours they managed to track the accused Mahesh.

Mahesh works for a company on P M Road. Police went there and arrested him. Later he was handed over to Women’s police station.

A case under Pocso stands registered against Mahesh Pai. The court has sent him to judicial custody.

    Beware boys out there.
If you want to propose or start a relationship, do not eye for PU girls or first year degree girls coz they are all below 18. Just a simple winking or whistling to attract a glance would subject you to be arrested for eve teasing and to be booked under POSCO.
Your whole life will be ruined.
I think police should responsibly use POSCO act.

''I think police should responsibly use POSCO act.''

Don't expect police to do that. Moreover, they are likely to harass a person for the bribe with a threat of being booked under POSCO.

Sensible comments seen so far on this forum. Instead of going after to which religion he follows it is always better to comment on the crime he/she has committed avoiding any religious angle to it.
To my opinion both know each other.

Sometimes, how we comment and give our judgement without knowing the true facts...

First of all, here the girl is not a blind one. Definitely, she knows or has seen the face of the accused, can identify the colour of his clothes he wore, his vehicle description etc. and which direction he fled in his vehicle.

As rightly opined by the Reader, Shirva/Dubai and he being an ex-policeman that the girl may be
knowing the person personally. Second things he fled from a vehicle. That's enough to solve this case".

Police need to know the background of the accused and.....

As a ex policeman I can tell you crime or law and order department has their own strategy to deal any kind of offence. From a hair we caught murder accused in Mumbai. In this case girl may know that person personally. Second things he fled from a vehicle. That's enough to slove this case. Some people giving their options they must work with police to see reality of their work. I worked only 3 hrs per day to slove some high profile murders happen in Dollors colony on 90's. But officer who sitting and giving false report to media will get all medals. And our worst judiciary system. You have money bribe lawyers and he vll adjust public prosecutor and judges. Getting bail is same like a eating masala dosa in Taj Mahal in Hampankatta Mangaluru.

    Sir,
    With due respect,
We, common readers here in this forum are not police officers, but with seemingly fair brains. Where else we can unleash the Sherlock Holmes sheltering in our brains but here? Our suggestions and opinions might be naive but can not be ruled out altogether.

Unbelievable. Police arresting a person based just on face description in a city like Mangalore?? unbelievable.
The girl would have noted down the vehicle number and given to police.

    Mr. Shankar,

Its upto the accused to prove that he was somewhere else, did not pass through that street at the time the incident took place. His verbal claim will be supported by CCTV images in that direction. This will display the facial features and the method adopted to trace the culprit a failure thus next time improvised method will be taken up.

However, the arrest gives a message to those who indulge in cheap behaviou such as in this news, as if they come from Families from where no wife, mother, sisters origin nor can anybody take guts to do the same with them too.

As Sri, Karkala rightly pointed out ..., both girl & the accused must be knowing each other...., more over there were other students in the vicinity...,

I am expecting a strong protest from pro student organization to call for stringent punishment to the accused....., let us wait & see...,
