Bengaluru: Congress MLAs in luxury resort when Gujarat affected by severe floods

Daijiworld Media Network- Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, Jul 30: Around 41 Congress MLAs from Gujarat are ‘happily’ locked in luxury at Eagleton resort here on the outskirts of city while their state has seen the severe floods.

The MLAs came in two batches from Ahmadabad and Rajkot in the early hours of Saturday after six of its MLAs resigned during the last two days. Following this, the Congress strength has been reduced to 51 MLAs in the 182-member Gujarat Assembly.

The MLAs are kept under a special ‘watch’ in order to protect them from any form of horse trading by the BJP before the crucial Rajya Sabha elections scheduled to take place on August 8.

The MLAs have been told not to go out at all. They have been also asked not to use mobile phones. Visitors from outside are not allowed to meet them, it is gathered.

As per the present plan, they will stay at the resort for a week and leave for Gandhinagar on the eve of the polls.

Bengaluru Rural MP D K Suresh, brother of energy minister D K Shivakumar, is overseeing the arrangements. Congress MLC C M Lingappa and party leader Saleem Ahmed, who is also additional special representative in New Delhi from Karnataka, are taking care of them. D K Shivakumar, who is in Singapore, will look into logistics of the stay of the MLAs soon after his return back home.

The sprawling resort is spread across 77 acres replete with a golf course. Room tariff per day here ranges between Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000. Gujarati and South Indian delicacies are on the menu for the guests.

Sources said two senior legislators were insisting on returning to Gujarat to monitor relief work in the wake of floods. However, they were persuaded to remain. A few legislators have expressed a wish to visit Tirupati for Darshan of Lord Balaji.

Elections will be held on August 8 for 3 Rajya Sabha seats. While the BJP, which has a majority in the House, has fielded its party national president Amit Shah and union minister Smriti Irani for two seats, the Congress has re-nominated Ahmed Patel, who is political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, for the third seat. The resignation of six legislators has jeopardised his election.

Meanwhile, Congress MLAs staying in Karnataka when Gujarat is experiencing severe floods has attracted heavy criticism from many quarters. Union minister Ananth Kumar said. “At a time when Gujarat is affected by severe floods, the Congress MLAs, instead of monitoring relief work are indulging in resort politics. It is an insult to the mandate of the people,”

THIS RESORT ISSUE NOT NEW BUT AT THIS TIME OF NEED IF THE CONCERNED MLA IS NOT WITH THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE VOTED HIM SHOWS TOTAL NEGLIGENCE ON HIS PART AS MLA.
MAY BE IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STATE / CENTRAL GOVT., BUT CONCERNED MLA SHOULD BE AVAILABLE IN HIS CONSTITUENCY TO ENSURE PROPER RELIEF MEASURES ARE AVAILABLE TO THE VOTERS.
SHIFTING MLA'S TO RESORTS TO PREVENT THEM FROM SHIFTING LOYALTY TO THE PARTY LIKE KG CLASS STUDENTS CLEARLY SHOWS COMMAND IN THE HANDS OF HIGH COMMAND IS BIG ZERO.

Resort politics is inbuilt in Congress core idea. What a situation, congress is having at this moment-corrupt minister DK Shivakumara looking after corrupt gujarat congress MLA. The money spent for pacifying these corrupt MLAs would have been used for flood relief in their respective constituencies.

Why is everyone questioning INC which is in the opposition? Let BJP stop spending Rs. 10 or 20 crores per MLA and instead spend it on the flood victims.

Congress followers will say Its the responsibilty of the state and Central govt. (so as if it is their right to Enjoy in Resort when such huge tragic has struck their state).

BJP followers will comment that they are enjoying when the people are dying here due to flood. Bas blame Game chalu.

Ultimately who is suffering??? The common man. Yes, these politicians should not enjoy at the cost of the life of a common man. I feel these politicians should go back to their state State and help their fellow people irrespective of the outcome. Atleast people will have faith in them in future. . This rules applies to all the political parties.

The money that the BJP uses to bribe these MLA's to shift loyalties is enough to take care of the flood victims. The only solution to this nonsense is to ban any person who changes loyalties mid way through the mandate is to ban him and his immediate family from contesting elections for two terms at least. If he wants to change sides, then he should resign and forfeit his seat and then he or his immediate family will be barred from contesting elections for two terms. This will put an immediate end to horse trading which is a curse in Indian politics. People have become so shameless that they will sell their mothers and daughters for money and power. So utterly disgusting. This applies to all parties including Congress, BJP etc. etc. Nobody is a saint.

Today, you sound exactly like the Germans who believed in Hitler. Give up such thoughts if you are human, otherwise there is no difference between you and Taliban, Al Qaida etc. Believe in real democracy which is transparent. Do you see this today, I am sorry, in the last 2 years? I too believed that I voted the right party and right ideology but my eyes became wide open when things started changing from bad to worse. We are on the down slope of NOWhere! The early everyone believes this is better.
