Mangaluru: Boat capsizes off Panambur - One fisherman feared drowned, 6 rescued

Mangaluru, Jul 30: One fisherman has been feared drowned after a traditional country fishing boat capsized near Meenakalia at Panambur-Baikampady here on Sunday July 30.

Six other fishermen who were on the boat were rescued.

The identity of the missing fisherman is yet to be ascertained.

The boat belonged to Ashok Mendon of Ullal.

Soon after receiving the news, MLA of Mangaluru North Mohiuddin Bava visited the Panambur police station and spoke to officials as well as the fishermen who were rescued.

Having taken stock of the situation, the MLA next visited the sea shore off which the boat capsized, and urged the rescue teams and officials to speed up the rescue operation for the missing fisherman.

    1. These fishermen are not supposed to venture in the seas because of fishing ban.
    2. If these people cannot afford Life jackets, I will provide them free if you let me know the quantity.
