Patna, Jul 31: Ever since Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar pulled out from the grand alliance in Bihar with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, attacks on him by RJD leaders have escalated.
On Monday, RJD leader Jagdanand Singh demanded Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to resign from his post as he is accused of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.
In 1991, criminal cases were filed against Nitish Kumar and he was accused of murdering Congress leader Sitaram Singh and injuring four others ahead of the Barh Lok Sabha by-election in November 1991.
Addressing a press conference, Jagdanand Singh said that Nitish doesn't deserve to be the Chief Minister as a number of criminal charges have been filed against him.
"The victim whom Nitish Kumar had killed is still waiting for justice. Normally, the criminal comes up against the state. But when the criminal is the head of the state, the case becomes a State vs State scenario," he said.
He further accused Nitish Kumar of safe-guarding the criminals in Bihar and backing criminal activities.
However, this is not the first time that cases against Nitish have been pulled up against him.
After Nitish broke from the grand alliance on 26 July, several RJD and Congress members expressed shock over the "betrayal". Nitish had resigned from his position as CM of Bihar and in a dramatic turn was sworn back as CM within 24 hours he had resigned. This time, he had made an alliance with the BJP.
On 27 July, RJD Chief Lalu Prasad had tweeted the Bihar chief minister's affidavit filed with his nomination papers. In it were mentioned a list of criminal cases. Nitish Kumar has been charged under sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 302 (punishment for murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
On Monday, the Patna High Court dismissed PILs filed by RJD MLAs Saroj Yadav and Chandan Verma and another PIL by Samajwadi Party member Jitendra Kumar challenging the formation of the new government by Nitish's JD(U) along with the BJP.
