Aug 1: A class 10 student in Telangana who had clicked a picture of his math teacher sleeping in class and had got him suspended by forwarding the same to the District Education Officer (DEO) was allegedly trashed by two policemen on Saturday.
The boy was a student of Zilla Parishad High School at Midjil in Mahbubnagar. On July 27, the boy had taken a picture of his Math teacher K Ramulu sleeping in class and had sent a WhatsApp to Mahbubnagar DEO. The next day the teacher was suspended.
“The student’s action had irked other teachers in the school and to teach him a lesson they contacted SI Saidulu who along with ASI Jahangir, went to the school on Saturday and tied the student to a volley ball post and beat him with sticks,” says Balala Hakkula Sangham Honorary President Achyuta Rao.
However, the Mahbubnagar police deny hitting the boy and claim he was caught consuming alcohol on the school premises.
Rao counters this claim, stating that the boy was beaten by police using sticks and even if he was caught consuming alcohol as claimed by the police, they still are not allowed to beat a child. He further demanded the suspension of the two cops.
Meanwhile, the boy in an audio recording to the NGO states that he was not consuming alcohol but was caught while drinking a soft drink with his friends. When the police arrived, he says that his friends escaped but he was trashed by the cops. Later, he says he visited the station where he was further abused and his cell phone was confiscated.
Mahbubnagar SP Rema Rajeswari has ordered an inquiry into the incident by Deputy SP Bhaskar Goud.
The police took action based on a complaint by school authorities. She maintained that the students were caught consuming alcohol. However, she says that if it is proved that the boy was beaten by the police, action will be taken as per law.
