Udupi: Couple slapped life imprisonment for killing man who behaved indecently

Udupi, Aug 2: The district and sessions court in Udupi on Tuesday August 1 passed a verdict sentencing a couple life term imprisonment for killing their friend.

Shekhar Dooja Moolya(53) and his wife Malathi Shekar Moolya(46), resident of Kantavara near Karkala have been slapped life time imprionment.

Rama Moolya(65), resident of Kanatavar had come to their home at night on September 16, 2011 at about 11 pm and allegedly acted indecently with the couple. The couple, who could not bear it, hit on the head and face of Rama Moolya with the handle of a sickle in front of their yard. Besides, Malathi had hit on the head of Rama Moolya severely injuring and killing him.

The then police circle inspector Vijayaprasad S, who conducted investigation in the incident, submitted a chargesheet to the court under IPC section 302, 342, and 34.

The honourable district and session’s court held trial based on the witnesses, heard the arguments and concluded that the crime is proven. Justice T Venkatesh pronounced life imprisonment for the couple under section 302 and Rs 5,000 fine under section 342. The amount will be paid to the affected family.

Public prosecutor Shantibai had argued the case for the prosecution.

    It looks like couple acted on self defence rather than with the intention of murder. Judgement looks very harsh on these couple. Is it depending upon the mood of the judge that punishment is slapped? I pity these hapless couple ! A drunken star mowed down slum dwellers under the influence of alcohol. He is set free , then why not these couple. ?

    @GORDOST mangalore.When the dead man acted indecently ,doesnt mean that he should be killed.killing is another catagory.Instead they could have called police and handover him.or could tie him to a tree.Afterall they were two,and man was alone.May be out of hatred ,now and previous too attaches,they took the possible weapon they could get and started beating,that ended deadly.People should not take law in thier hands.RIP
