London, Aug 3 (IANS): A London-based Indian-origin doctor has been formally charged with 118 sex crimes, including one involving a 13-year-old girl, police said.

According to the London Metropolitan Police, Manish Shah, 47, allegedly assaulted at least 54 different victims at his practice in Havering in east London between June 2004 and July 2013, Efe news reported on Thursday.

The Met Police, who began to investigate accusations against Shah four years ago, said he will face court with 65 counts of sexual assault by penetration and 52 sexual assault allegations.

The charge of sexually assaulting the minor will be prosecuted separately.

Shah, who speaks Hindi and Gujarati in addition to English, was not born in the UK. He is a registered doctor with the UK's National Health Services.
