Four Spanish nationals killed in Andhra road accident


Chittoor, Aug 5 (IANS): Five people, including four Spanish nationals, were killed in a road accident in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district on Saturday, police said.

The accident occurred near Yatala Vanka in Punganur "mandal" (block) when a mini-bus in which they were travelling collided head-on with a truck.

Four Spanish nationals and driver of the mini-bus were killed and one Spaniard was critically injured. Four other Spanish nationals sustained minor injuries, a police official said.

The foreign nationals were heading to Puducherry after visiting the Rural Development Trust (RDT), a philanthropic organisation, in Anantapur district.

The Spanish nationals were undertaking various service activities in the district through RDT.

Expressing shock over the accident, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to contact Spain's embassy in New Delhi and gather details about the victims.
