Shivamogga/Mysuru : 8 killed in two separate ghastly accidents in state

Shivamogga/Mysuru, Aug 6: In a ghastly accident, five people travelling in an auto-rickshaw on NH 206 of Achapura grama, near Anandapura of Sagar taluk here were killed when the auto collided with a private bus on Saturday, August 5.

The incident occurred in the afternoon. The deceased have been identified as Thippeswamy, Ramu, Kumara, Putaraju and Shivu.

Among them Shivu died in government Meggan hospital, Shivamogga without responding to treatment. The remaining four passengers were killed on the spot. Their ages have been learnt to be 35-40 years.


Accident at Anandapura near Sagar

Another person who was also in the auto has been seriously injured and is being treated in the ICU of Meggan hospital, as per the sources.

All the six people in the auto were the residents of Bhuvanahalli Tavarekere of Shira taluk, Tumkur district. They were driving auto as well as working as daily wage workers, as per police sources. They had come to the temple of Singadhoor Chaudeshwari deity on Friday and had stayed in Sagar. The accident occurred when they were returning to their home town on Saturday. The bus was on its way from Shivamogga to Sagar.

Rural police station circle inspector Manjunath visited the place and conducted investigation. Negligence and over speeding of the bus are said to be the causes of the accident. The driver of the bus is absconding.

A police case has been registered in Sagar rural police station.

In the other accident that took place near Kempaiahanahundireported in T Narsipur taluk in Mysuru district in the wee hours of Saturday, 3 people, including two women, were killed while other others sustained injuries after a goods carrier in which they were travelling crashed into a stationary lorry.

According to the police, Mahadevamma (55) and Basamma (46) of T Narsipur, and Raghu (25) of Kyatamaranahalli in Mysuru died en route hospital. The injured Siddaiah of Yedatore, Somashekar of Kyatamaranahalli and Rathna are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mysuru.

The victims were vegetable vendors and were going to Mysuru to buy vegetables.

Raghu was driving the vehicle which belongs to Somashekar. Police suspect that Raghu may not have spotted the stationary lorry as the stretch was dimly lit. Police said that the driver also did not apply brakes to control the vehicle.

Police have registered a case and investigation is going on.
