Dubai/Mangaluru, Aug 6: At first glance, you would mistake the art for a remarkable masterpiece on a canvas. Look closer, you will see a human form camouflaged among the vibrant streaks and delicate yet striking hues. Look beyond, and you will know it is the brilliant work of an insanely talented artist, Alicia Goveas.
Alicia, all of 24 years, is an artist par excellence based in Dubai. An artist who gives expression to her talent in various forms - mind-blowing transformations, caricatures, exquisite face and body art, and fabulous henna designs.
Two years since her taking up this profession, Alicia has made a profound impression in the Middle East region and internationally; among contemporary artists and make-up enthusiasts alike.
In addition to beauty make-up and blogging, Alicia is also one of the first body painters in Dubai. She also specialises in henna designing and caricature. Brands like Make up Forever, NYX, Rimmel, Huda Beauty, and many more, all recognise her as a leading artist and blogger. What started out as a basic face painting job led her to where she is today, with 21,000 strong followers on Instagram (check out her page @dubai_faceandbodyartist). In a short span of time, she has gone on to become one of the most sought-after make up artists for traditional as well as quirky make up transformations.
Among her most recent achievements are, winning the Galleries Lafayatte “Make up blogger of the year 2016”, “Top 20 NYX Arabia Face Awards”, participating in Paintopia, an international body painting competition held in the UK, and many more local competitions. Recently she also worked as a make-up artist back stage for a Universal Studios production.
Alicia has fought to make her mark and name in this industry, and now receives immense support from her friends and family alike. "It requires courage and faith in yourself and skill to pursue a non conventional career in a highly corporate society, but the gratification and rewards after, make the struggle worthwhile," she says. Alicia sees a canvas in every face and body and is always coming up with out of the box ideas to transform everyone she meets into a mythical creature, super hero, princess, or whatever they may wish. This especially makes Alicia a favourite with the kids.
Once, she even transformed herself into the former One Direction band member Zayn Malik and strolled through the Mall of the Emirates flanked by bodyguards! She was mobbed by people who believed her to be their favourite star, and prank grabbed international headlines. Her creativity has even led her to take on the appearances of Mother Teresa and Kayne West.
Moreover, Alicia specialises in all kinds of bridal make up, and is keen to incorporate her clients’ wishes in her final looks. Already approached for make up at international weddings and having worked on numerous brides from all over the world, Alicia now wishes to take her talent back home to India and is open to booking for all kinds of bridal make up (engagement, roce, wedding, reception) etc in Mangaluru and elsewhere.
