UP: Shaken by death of 63 kids, PM seeks detail; Oppn lashes whip on Yogi

Gorakhpur, Aug 12 (Agencies): The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday suspended the principal of the Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College in Gorakhpur, following the death of 63 children, including newborns, due to alleged disruption in the supply of liquid oxygen.

"We are suspending BRD medical college principal with immediate effect for this negligent behaviour," Ashutosh Tandon, the Health Minister and Siddharth Nath Singh, Minister for Medical Education said.

"High level probe to take place, headed by Principal Secretary. Will wait for report, action will be taken. Till then suspending principal," Tandon added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is monitoring situation in the Gorakhpur hospital and is in constant touch with the Central and state government officials.

As many as 63 children have died since the past six days as the oxygen supply to the company was allegedly cut by the supplier -- Pushpa Private Limited.

The cases led to outrage in the country.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said in a tweet, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought information about the Gorakhpur incident. On his directives, Union Health minister JP Nadda and MoS Anupriya Patel also sought information of the incident."

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) termed the death of infants as an outcome of the state government's "gross criminal negligence" and demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident.

Both the opposition parties in the state have decided to send teams to Gorakhpur.

"As many as 60 children have died in a government hospital in Gorakhpur in the last six-seven days. This is an example of gross criminal negligence of the BJP government," BSP chief Mayawati said in a release.

Blaming the Yogi Adityanath government for the tragedy, SP president Akhilesh Yadav claimed that a shortage of oxygen supply in the hospital led to it.

"The company supplying oxygen had informed the principal (of Baba Raghav Das Medical College Hospital) that it would stop the supply if payment was not made and the government must be aware that the deaths have been caused due to a shortage of oxygen," he said.

Stating that the exact toll was not available with the opposition, Yadav said, "We have received information that as the children were dying, their families were being taken out of the hospital in a hush hush manner."

Demanding a high-level inquiry into the incident, Mayawati said all possible help should be extended to the bereaved families.

"As it is not in the nature of the BJP to accept its follies, the matter of dismissing the departmental ministers for this negligence should be left on the wisdom of the chief minister," she added.

The BSP supremo further alleged that the issues of peoples' welfare were of no importance "for the governments of the BJP".

"Issues like tiranga (tricolour), vande mataram, madarsa, anti-romeo squads - which divert the attention of the people - are of more importance to them," she said.

Mayawati added that as the incident took place at a time when the chief minister was on a visit to Gorakhpur and "taking time off his political activities and puja-paath, was doing government work", it raised "a hundred questions on the capacity and working of the BJP government".

A six-member SP team, led by Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Ram Govind Chaudhary, has been asked to submit its report to the party chief by August 13 and a three-member BSP team, led by its state unit chief Ram Achal Rajbhar, has been asked to rush to Gorakhpur.

Meanwhile, Masood Ahmed, the state unit president of the Rashtriya Lok Dal, said it was a "matter of grave concern" that the district administration and the hospital were "trying to hide their shortcomings" and demanded the resignation of state health minister Siddharth Nath Singh.

"The health minister should resign on moral grounds. It seems he had been busy working as a spokesman of the government and does not have the ability to work as the health minister," he alleged.

Deaths were being reported in this hospital for the Past many years which looks a very high figure. this tells the sorry state of affairs in government Hospitals. Yogi considering this should have been extra cautious. There should be a thorough investigation by experts. in any organisation levels of inventory are monitored. as soon as inventory reaches minumum level, reorder levels are triggered. therefore it seems that inventory keeper has not warned his immediate superiors. or the immediate officers at the hospital are callous despite the warnings. Now that PM & health minister has taken stock of the situation let us hope these sad incidents do not recur.

Now that the good Samarithan has sought details. According to Bhakts he is a reincarnation of some God. He will certainly revive dead children. Principal has been suspended. 63 innocent children death is punished by only suspension of a Principal. If little shame and humanity is left, Yogi should resign and go to Himalaya which is the right place for him. R.I.P. little Angels.

Why did they need the PM to seek details to look into the death of 63 new born which incidentally have been occurring over the past 6 days.

Its clearly a sign that the UP government has been non functional, its also a case of one man at the center trying to run a one man show governing 1.25 billion Indians; the results are clearly evident.

Of course the 1.25 billion Indians are puppets on strings!

PM and CM are both misleading the people. Both shedding crocodile tears. I wonder where are the anti corruption crusaders now ? What has happened to their voices ? Subramanian Swamy, Arnab Goswami, Anna Hazare, Kiran Bedi , Gaurav Sawant, Rahul Shivshankar, Navika Sharma , Pallavi Ghosh, Padmaja Joshi, Anand Narasimhan etc. ?
Where are English speaking stalwarts Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad hiding ??? Not always possible to lie with a straight face ?
Where are the spokespersons who specialize in defending the indefensible mess of the BJP ? GVL Narasimha Rao, Sambit Patra, NC Shaina, Sudhanshu Mittal ?
Why is the great Nitish Kumar on 'MUTE MODE' ???
Where are the so called 'neutral' but in reality the political chamchas of the BJP ?? ? Swapan Dasgupta, Ashok Malik etc.
Where is the person who cannot speak without moving his hands ? Piyush Goyak ?

In UP Yogi as banned Cow and Buffalo slaughtering but as started children slaughtering... another thing is health minister was saying children didn't die because of oxygen because they had stock of oxygen, but the truth is out they die due to oxygen shortage.... Modi is just pretending as if he is concerned, he is not worried about poor. He is just worried about rich.

But in between all the deaths and government’s denial, the truth is that one local journalist named Manoj Kumar Singh had been constantly reporting about the oxygen shortage and ongoing deaths since July.
Manoj works for ‘Gorakhpur News Line’, a local news website dedicated to stories from Gorakhpur and adjoining regions. And his stand in covering news events has always been that of an activist.

On July 22, Gorakhpur News Line published a story about the death of four children within 48 hours due to encephalitis in the same BRD medical college of Gorakhpur. These children were from Kushinagar, Deoria and Gorakhpur.

On July 28, Singh wrote for news portal The Wire and talked about the condition of encephalitis rehabilitation ward, also known as Preventive Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) Department of BRD medical college. He reported that 11 health officials appointed in the PMR department had not been paid for the last 27 months.

Singh continued reporting on the matter and on August 8, he shared two stories regarding encephalitis and health conditions in Gorakhpur. In one of them, it was clearly mentioned that the National Human Rights Commission was supposed to meet health officials on August 11.
It is nothing but official negligence of CM Yogi who don't know how to prioritise his job. He has failed in all front so far PM Modi should moral take responsibility for this utter negligence and replace Yogi with better educated candidate.

There are more than 50 deaths in 'Vyapam scam' in Madhya Pradesh. PM Modi who is quick to send Tweet to CM Nitish Kumar is not shaken by murders.
Now 'Uttam Pradesh' he has promised after Yogi more than 60 deaths Modi seems to be in still vacation mode.
PM Modi and BJP is quick to capitalise on issue related to non-BJP ruled state is seems to not in a mood to act.
In last UP election rally prime Minister told a in Fatehpur, 150km south of Lucknow."If a kabristan (burial ground) is built in a village, then a smashan (cremation ground) should also be constructed there,".
Now it seems his wish of 'shamshan ' seems to coming true as more human tragedy is reported from CM Yogi 'Uttam Pradesh'.

UP government is busy sending farmans for 'Madrasa' in state . In his own constituency hospital running out of adequate supply of 'Oxygen'.

PM Modi is saying "Mera Desh Badal Raha Hai aage Badh Raha hai". No one knows is he talking about RSS version of 'Akhand Bharath' or Dr Ambedkar equal constitutional rights to Indians.

In Gujarat when women suffering from 'malnutrition' he attributed beauty consciousness. Now UP UP childrens death he will say 'population control'??
Is this the 'minimum government' maximum governance' which they promised to the nation?

587 children died at the hospital in 2016, 668 in 2015, and 567 in 2014. He said previous records showed that on an average, 17-18 children died at the hospital daily.

though there is no point in defending the present deaths, Fact is its been quite rampant in that area.
Now we have to see how the government reacts to this and what steps will be taken to stop these tragedies.

This unfortunate tragedy was just waiting to happen, due to a massive failure of the system, caused by nothing but gross & criminal negligence at various levels. May the souls of the innocent angels (precious little victims) rest in peace.
