Elephant electrocuted in Jharkhand


Ranchi, Aug 14 (IANS): An elephant died due to electrocution in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district on Monday, police said.

The elephant was electrocuted in Dhalbhumgarh in East Singhbhum district when its trunk touched a 11,000 volt wire, according to police.

The elephant was in pain for more than 45 minutes before dying.

In Jharkhand, more than 25 elephants have dued due to electrocution in the past few years.

In another incident, a herd of elephants damaged over six houses in Malhaan Panchayat in Latehar district.

More than 700 people have been killed by elephants in Jharkhand after the creation of the state in 2000.
