Mangalore, May 16: Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza inaugurated and blessed the newly built St Antony's Chapel, located at Anthonykatte, en route Bajpe on Tuesday May 13 evening.
The chapel was a long felt need of parishioners who were divided owing to the laying of concrete runway at Bajpe airport, to cater to their spiritual needs. The chapel has the potential to become major shrine in the future, since it located in the serene surrounding, easily accessed by road and with a clear view of runway.
Bishop in his homily stressed the need to love our neighbour, in order to lead meaningful life embodied with the virtues of Jesus Christ and ever ceasing prayers. He called upon the faithful to visit the Chapel often, to remain closer to God and to thank for all his graces.
Fr Vernon Vaz acknowledged the support from the residents of Karambar, Anthonykatte, Kenjar and Pezar for extending their co-operation and urged to do so in the future too.
Stage programmes were held after the Holy Mass by the Bishop. The programme began with the prayer hymn by choir group. Fr Vernon Vaz, parish priest of Mary Help of Christians (Mariapura), Adyapady welcomed the gathering. Bishop also felicitated all those who contributed for the construction of Chapel, besides the parish priest by draping the shawl, commending his hard work in executing the project in a short time and mobilizing funds.
Fr Mathias Pereira, parish priest of St Joseph's Church, Bajpe and P Krishna Bhat, temple priest of Sri Somanatheshwara temple, Porkody were the chief guests present at the occasion. Nirmala Chandrashekar, president of Malavoor gram panchayat, Victoria D'Cunha, zilla panchayat member, Lawrence Rebello, taluk panchayat member were also present along with Michael D'Costa , vice president of parish council, Mariapura Church, Adyapady.
Mabel D'Souza, secretary of parish pastoral council proposed vote of thanks. Alice D'Costa compered the programme.
Tulu comedy drama 'Suddi Malpodchi' was staged by 'Cha Parka' Tulu drama troupe directed by the popular artiste and playwright Devdas Kapikad of 'Telikeda Bolli' fame, as part of entertainment programme.
