Mangalore: KCCI Organizes Mela to Distribute Currency Coins

Mangalore, May 22: A coin mela was organized by Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) at its office here on Wednesday May 21 to release currency coins dispatched by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to the district.

Vijaya Bank deputy general manager Prakashchandra Shetty inaugurated the programme by handing over a sack of coins to local businessman Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy. The programme was held to symbolize the release of coins amounting to Rs 70 lac to the district by RBI.

Currency chests of various banks have already received their share of coins from the RBI and a sum of Rs 50 lac out of the said amount is meant for distribution in the city alone.

Coins were issued to the desirous KCCI members on the occasion against tendering cash. KCCI has requested the people to approach their respective banks to collect their requirement of coins.

KCCI president Kumble Narasimha Prabhu, addressing the gathering informed that KCCI has requested RBI for further release of coins to overcome problems being faced by the people of the district on account of shortage of coins and also that KCCI will be holding similar programmes in the future too.
