Sullia: Man handed over to police for attempt at religious conversion

Daijiworld Media Network - Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Aug 28: An individual was handed over to the police by residents of Kollamogru-Kalmakaru village, duly accusing him of indulging in religious conversion.

The accused happens to be Dorairaju from Kallugundi in the taluk. He was taken into custody by personnel of Subrahmanya police station in the taluk.

Dorairaju, it is claimed, used to visit some houses in Kollamogru and Kalmakaru areas often and his visits evoked suspicion. In the past, the villagers had sent him back with a warning when he visited houses of some Hindus including dalits and offered prayers there.

During Dorairaju's visit to the village on Saturday August 26 night, the villagers questioned him and checked his bag. They found rubber seal and receipt books standing in the name of a particular centre of prayer. He was later handed over to the police.

The locals say that the accused, who is of Tamil Nadu origin, had got converted into Christianity and that he was trying to influence others to follow suit. Reportedly in the past too a case had been registered against him when he was trying to pressurize someone into getting converted into his religion.

Poor Innocent Hindus are brainwashed by these shameless converting agencies saying that one's economic condition will increase after conversion.

A strict Anti-conversion law must be enforced & 'Right to live in the religion of birth' must be established. No brainwash will help in economic upbringing. Let us live peacefully in the religion of birth rather than creating unnecessary problems.

@Hitesh mangalore, there is no law needed to live in your birth religion.Everyone has the right to live by birth and also the right to change his religion when he wants .Nobody can go against it,Afterall a person is a individuel. He can think and act what he wants. You dont buy things when someone forces you,but your choice.Of course there are people who try to convert others ,because it is their duty to do so (only in certain religion)and collect money etc.lets forget it.People who are not stabile in their religion only will convert.Or find other is better ,let them. With time they will realize it.let police take over it.we need not worry. But one more thing, when one tries to hold conversation doesnt mean trying to convert.Police too cant arrest one.but only on definately pressurize on someone ,can be arrest.

I have a catholic friend, who is well versed in vedas/Upanishads and Sri Vidya.
His recitation of mantras will put to shame any pandit. I asked him what made him get into Hindusim.
His reply was astonishing to me....... " I am an Indian and i must know about my Indian Culture and knowing bit more about other religions will help understand my own religion well".........

Wish we had many such generous people who embrace Indian culture, it should be by all so that knowing one another faith will help greatly
    That will bring harmony.

DK Shetty, you are right. If wicked politicians, violence instigating Sadhus and Sadhvis, illiterate goons who lynch innocent people have little knowledge of great Hindu religion, they will never indulge in blood shed. Religious leaders should conduct prayers at least weekly and guide the goons to follow teachings of Hinduism and lead a noble life instead of attacking fellow Indian.

I am surprised. This is news to me.

However, one issue which may spiral out of control in this delicate society of ours is whether he will be considered a "genuine" guy because from historical background and from the past recurrences too, people (political circles) have tarnished and targeted those who went out of their way for such a noble cause.

May be he is the "need of the hour" person. Probably he could heal the on-going turmoil in our great country and provide a soothing solution to the varied culture which is presently undergoing rampant abuse/threat under the guise of religion-related issues and conserving the "sensitive" fabric from splitting apart.

Nothing wrong to avail of his services if he can provide a yeoman service for the benefit of one and all.

You are right. Accepting a particular religion is the right of people, but do not offer bribes to them to accept it, and do not keep them in shackles and program them by telling them that the new religion is the only true religion and the god o that religion is the only true god and all other gods are false. Furthermore, muslims and christians did not indulge in changing the entire culture (change of name, change of dress, eating flesh (especially pork), change of language (Urdu or Portuguese), etc. - what one in Canada calls "cultural genocide" of the converted and brought in rigid rules and punishment so that they do not apostate.

I dont understand these people. Why they should convert forcefully someone? Christianity is a good religion as well as christians. People should use their time doing good work to the society and minding their business rather than converting people. Mainstream church is against these activities. Only such local so called christian will do such dirty job and bring a bad name to Christianity.

The people of my country have strange man made laws,
Ram Raheem is allowed to preach , dupe, rape ,Molest ,make movies and then to burn the entire city.
Asaram is allowed to preach ,rape, molest and dance on stage during so called preaching,
Nithyananda is allowed to do more activities in our own state.
The reported news itself is false news or half truth. If sadhu sages are allowed to preach in public about their religions then what is wrong in Dorairaju spreading the religion. He is alone and reported he is alone and how you justify that he forced people for conversion? Is it reported that he forced people with pointing a Gun at their head? Or Knife at them? Its reported that he offered prayers, means the people let him inside the house by the people themselves. The chaddi people might have played a foul game because he was frequently visiting people and preaching them and the chaddi gang is worried about few votes. Go back and read what the freedom of speech mentioned in the latest last week SC ruling. The police of Karnataka , SP, are totally responsible for these kind of actions.
If you call the police about some miscreants come and loot you or rape or molest you then the police will ask you many questions, but the police will just rush if you call and say there is animal transport or if there is a christian preaching in public.
Just imagine what sections the police can file in this case? You think the sitting magistrate is fool to send the so called accused to jail.?

What a person is going to gain by increasing head count of his religion. Mere changing of name and dress code is not going to convert anybody. One need accept from the bottom of his heart the principle of new religion. People can force to change the dress habits, name etc, but how a person can force anybody to change his heart. However if anybody preach about his religion, the receiver accepts by heart that the whatever he heard was true, then accepts from within, then that is conversion, but where is the force here!
