Gorakhpur tragedy continues: 42 children die in 48 hours at BRD hospital

Gorakhpur, Aug 30 (Zee News): Two weeks after the Gorakhpur tragedy that stunned the nation, another 42 children died in the last 48 hours at the Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College.

“42 children died in 48 hours of which 7 due to encephalitis, rest due to other reasons,” said PK Singh, the principal of BRD Medical College

Over 290 children have died at the hospital from August 1 till August 28, including at least 77 from Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES).

Among 36 deaths reported on August 27 and 28, seven children died of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), 15 in Neo-Natal Ward NICU and 14 children died of different medical reasons, claimed a senior doctor at the hospital seeking anonymity, reported DNA.

According to hospital sources, nearly 1,250 children have died since January 2017, including 175 due to AES.

Following widespread outrage over the death of children, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government suspended BRD principal Dr Rajiv Mishra.

Mishra and his wife were arrested by the Special Task Force in Kanpur on Tuesday.

Dr Kafeel Khan, who shot to limelight for saving many kids, was also sacked from his position of as the head of the encephalitis ward.

Source told the DNA, while the state goes on a sacking spree, no arrangements have been made for the replacements.

It is interesting to note that Gorakhpur and surrounding areas have been badly affected by the encephalitis infection for more than a decade.

Despite many efforts, the locals have not been able to realise the extent of the situation. A doctor on condition of anonymity told the DNA, “How will we treat these infants when they reach hospital at the last stage.”

He also said that, “the toll, if compared from the previous year, is less. Media is unnecessary making a hue and cry.”

In any sane democracy, the death of over 100 children in a few days would have been a career-ending event. But not in PM Modi's BJP ruled states.
With the government giving 23 natural reasons for the children’s deaths, the Adityanath government has 23 reasons for 23 deaths, but lack of oxygen isn’t one of them.
“One can keep blaming us for things but this is an exercise which has been neglected for the last 20 years in the state of UP, Bihar, Assam,” UP health minister Siddharth Nath Singh said.

Gorakhpur is what happens when a communal agenda is passed off as ‘Good Governance’. May be mob lynching or children dying due to lack of medical attention, the 'humanity' is one of the lowest in India.

    PAM.
He has been doing all good. That's why there is no check on the miserable deaths of children. Instead of anti-dot or right vacine or any other medical approach, the yogi government is chasing medical pratitionars for exposing administrative loop holes. Simply do not praise/defend because BJP is your choice of party.

    Flavian,
BJP is not providing my livelihood,i need to work my own for my life.

Secondly,i hailed from Congi leaders family, but gradually situation and flop show and divisive policies of same party made all youngsters from our family to attract towards BJP.

Thirdly, Kids dying because of poor vaccination adopted by all earlier ruled UP govt , including some portion of present state govt too.

But why some people are making this as the world biggest blunder!! done by Yogi?

Are we not seeing the same kind of infant mortality in other part of country?
Prays for no more death of kids.

    Shankar,
I am totally agreeable with your point of views.
That's what the public and educated mass needs.
Mistakes do happen but covering up the mistakes deliberately should not be encouraged. The governments/PM’s duty is to elucidate on the wrong or neglected responsibilities and not trying to coverup the State leaders.By doing like that, BJP will lose more than what they gained so far.
I am also sure that there is no alternative party nor a leader to lead our country. By that, it does not mean that common man should tolerate whatever goes wrong under the ruling party.
Good luck and let us hope that things will move in right direction.

One thing is clear and what is going happen in the future that the public is sensing the BJP's misrule and in abilities to deal with public hue & cry. The punishment to break their head-weight comes indirectly and people should realize the benefits or pros & cons before the next LS election are due.

    elder,
Please do not try to justify your thought with the Creators powers.
Secondly we are in this world to face challenges, make improvements through scientific or medical fields. Cannot succumb to fears, sickness, decease and natural calamities. When humans suffer or face unknown deceases it's our humanity to pay some attention towards their difficulties and fair to justify that it's nature's role to maintain population growth.

India is going towards Rishi, Yogi and false Babas era.
Government is interested more in maintaining the culture, Yoga, Gairaksha and other values of Hindutva. BJP is racing towards conquering to bring their party in rest of the States and walk with their heads down. (Up not possible due to their double standards. As to achievement we all know where we are at present. They are hell bent to ensure that BJP name does not bring a wrong impression at any cost. First political name & fame & game.

    Flavian,
BJP is the best out of the parties available to chose in India, now.
We can attach the overwhelming support by international fora to India recently could have not achieved if not for Modi. Japan and USA openly stood in support of India in Doklam issue. China offered Bhutan to trade for all the border issues for Doklam. But Bhutan stood with India and rejected China's offer.
The demonetization, the road development works, funds to ISRO, free gas connection to families in remote villages, Naxal combing, investments for solar energy, agriculture boost, etc etc are the good steps by BJP.
The failure of Kattar government to control the mob, failure of Yogi to provide good health care are black points, but still, comparing to the Congress rule of scams, BJP is better. Remove, yogi, sakshi, kattar and a few of other brainless ones from BJP, you too will vote for BJP.

This is the result of suspending the able doctors and hospitals are running short of doctors? Bad administration indeed. Instead of making right arrangements or find out a solution they are going after the doctors to catch and punish. Irresponsible people. Why watching everything from political perspective.

Every second day we hear Yeddi, Shobakka and all and sundry from the bhakt brigade demanding Shriman Siddaramiah's resignation. Earlier, after heavy and unprecedented rains in Bangalore they again wanted him to resign. Why is then nobody from the Bhakt brigade demanding Fadnavis' resignation and also the Gujarat CM's resignation when the rains washed away many roads due to shoddy construction? Why is nobody demanding Yogi's resignation now with the second round of child deaths taking place in Gorakpur his own constituency. Why is nobody demanding Khattar's resignation for the law and order mess over the past 3 years? Why is nobody demanding Raman Singh's resignation over his son's foreign bank accounts as per the Panama papers?
