Congress not to contest Gurugram civic polls on party symbol

New Delhi, Sep 2 (IANS): The Congress on Friday said it will not contest the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon election on September 24 on party symbol, as per the past practice.

Party General Secretary in charge of Haryana affairs Kamal Nath said this after consultations with state leaders.

Nath said in a statement that the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state had "utterly failed in creating and providing infrastructure, civic amenities, and safe law and order in the Millennium City, and that the BJP-led MCG is principally responsible for the same".

He asked state leaders to work in unison to ensure that the new MCG elects representatives following the Congress ideology and thought process, who would truly help in transforming Gurugram into a city with modern infrastructure and amenities.
