Pakistani PM announces compensation for rain-hit Karachi

Islamabad, Sep 4 (IANS): Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that the central government will provide financial and functional aid to the rain-hit city of Karachi.

Taking notice of the losses rendered by the rains in the city, Abbasi on Sunday directed the concerned authorities to provide the aid to the Sindh government for rehabilitation and compensation of the people affected, reports Xinhua news agency.

He also held a meeting to review the post-rain situation in the city.

At least 20 people were killed in the heavy downpour in the city over the last week.

Local trade union leaders said that the traders have lost millions of rupees as rain water inundated their shops, destroying the things inside.
