GST India's biggest economic reform ever: Modi at BRICS meet

Xiamen, Sep 4 (Deccan Chronicle): Addressing BRICS Business Council in China's Xiamen, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is India's biggest economic reform ever.

"It is India’s biggest economic reform measure ever; in one stroke, a unified market of 1.3 billion people has been created," he said.

Modi also said that programs like Digital India, Start-Up India and Make in India are also changing economic landscape of India.

“Digital India, Start Up India and Make in India are assisting India turn into a knowledge based, skill supported and tech driven society,” he said.

"I am happy to note that BRICS Business Council is entering into an MOU with the New Development Bank," Modi said.

"India is changing fast into one of the most open economies in the world today; FDI inflows are at an all-time high, rising by 40 per cent," he added.

Modi also complimented BRICS Business Council work towards establishment of BRICS Rating Agency, energy cooperation, green finance and digital economy.

“We count on the BRICS Business Council to take us closer to our common objective of improving business and investment cooperation,” the Prime Minister said, concluding his speech.

I would suggest the following reforms after the implementation of GST, Demonetization etc.,
    1. Quality control of the products & return policy with 90 days full refund & 1 years for heavy items if the customer is not satisfied with the product. Especially to ensure quality of construction in real estate sector.
    2. Reduce price of petrol (gas) & diesel and make it fluctuate according to market trend.
    3. Help farmers to grow organic food & help them with equipment & seeds.
    4. Introduce healthcare reform & healthcare education reform all over India & make it affordable & fix certain rate for services.
    5. Extend the expressways & railways up-to the border & beyond of neighboring countries and make seamless travel which would encourage tourism & trade.

Of all BJP claiming success of GST is CRIME, not fault. It is for 10years, the then CM Modi was opposing it tooth and nail, indicating it is not in the countries interest. There was no riders to his outlandish claims. It was point blank.

Today, the same GST he opposed, is in countries interest. Today it is a biggest reform for PM Modi.

It is for the people to evaluate who was working in countries interest and who was against. One certainly has to salute Dr. MMS for all his best efforts to work in countries path to development.

After stalling Parlimant for so many sessions when the congress introduced the GST, Narender Damodar Modi is trying to take credit for the GST. How sad to see our PM indulging in such Blatant Shadow Boxing. This is probably the only way he can fake he has 56" Chest. Not a Statesman material that India rightly deserves.

First of all nobody in China new about GST roll out in India. If Chinese media has some knowledge feed from his own voice during Chief Minister of Gujarat the debate may have made difference.

After all, BJP opposed it for several years, especially then CM, Gujarat.

A reform that holds great potential is being rushed through in a half-baked way with a self-promotional spectacle.

"But like demonetisation, GST is being executed by an incompetent and insensitive government without planning, foresight and institutional readiness,"

Many Indians don't even know central government’s decision to impose more than 110% tax on every litre of petrol and 88% tax on one litre of diesel.
Where maximum slab of GST is 28%, Petroleum products and real estate are kept away from it. This are the two sectors which is the highest contributors to BJP party fund in last three years.
It is not surprising why PM Modi applauds GST in BRICS summit who don't want to take direct questions other than 'Mann ki baat'.

Modi-Please continue your good work. You will find many dogs barking on the way.

GST was indeed a great achievement.
Demonetization was a great too. I am sure the next step would be to ban 2000 Rs and introduce only Rs 500 and below.

Only you can take these bold steps.Make India Great again. We missed such a leader for over 200 years.
