NOIDA, May 28: The family of dentist Rajesh Talwar, accused by Noida police of killing her teenaged daughter Aarushi, on Tuesday demanded a CBI inquiry into the sensational Noida twin murder case alleging he has been made a "shocking scapegoat".
The family also demanded that Talwar be immediately handed over to CBI "strongly apprehending" about the well being of Talwar in Noida police's custody.
"Talwar has been shockingly made a scapegoat in the case...the family is unanimously demanding an impartial CBI inquiry into the twin murder", family lawyer Pinaki Mishra told a press conference at the Talwars' residence here.
He said Noida Police "should desist from any further questioning or investigations into the case as they are compounding their errors".
Uttar Pradesh government should immediately order a CBI probe into the murders, he added.
Mishra said the family feared for Talwar's safety in police custody after witnessing the way in which the investigators "bulldozed" the matter to the court.
He claimed the case came up before the court on Tuesday at a time when a lawyers' strike was on and "defence lawyers were not allowed to argue Talwar's case".
"Unfortunately, our plea for an adjournment of the case on account of the strike was disallowed and a three-day police custody was granted. We find this as against all cannons of natural and established justice," Mishra said.
Claiming there were many shortcomings in the police probe into the murder case of Aarushi, the 14-year-old daughter of the Talwar couple, and their domestic help Hemraj, Mishra said police did not have any "extraordinary" evidence for seeking the dentist's police custody.
