Blue Whale victim recovering at Jodhpur hospital

Jaipur, Sep 7 (IANS): A 17-year-old girl, who tried to commit suicide twice as part of the fatal Blue Whale online game, is recovering at a private hospital in Jodhpur, a doctor said on Thursday.

"She was admitted on Tuesday morning in the hospital. She had consumed mercury tablets before jumping into the Kaylana Lake late on Monday night," the doctor K.R. Daukiya told IANS.

"She was admitted in the ICU (intensive care unit) and now she seems fine and will be shifted to the general ward."

According to the doctor, the girl is now saying that people should not fall into the trap of the game.

"No one should even try to download the game, forget playing it," the girl, the daughter of a retired Border Security Force (BSF) trooper, conveyed to the doctors.

The Class 10 student had the image of a Blue Whale carved on her arm with a knife, one of the 50 challenges of the game.

"I saw a girl driving a Scooty around the lake. I was suspicious as it was around 11 p.m.," said Om Prakash, a handcart vendor who pulled her out from the water.

"I followed her and suddenly saw her jumping into the lake. I also immediately jumped."

When Prakash asked the girl why she tried to end her life, she said if she failed to complete the task then the game's administrators would kill her mother.

The Blue Whale game is targeted at teenagers and forces them to perform several dangerous activities, finally leading them to commit suicide.

The game has claimed many lives worldwide.
