Mangalore, May 29 : Office bearers of Dakshina Kannada Rashtreeya Heddari Ulisi Horata Samithi(DKRHUHS) have informed, that a decision has been taken to form an Emergency Monitoring Committee under the leadership of the district deputy commissioner, for overseeing the national highway widening work, in view of the problems likely to be encountered during the ensuing monsoon season.

They said, that this decision was taken by the deputy commissioner(DC) M Maheshwar Rao, after holding a meeting with the office bearers of the Samithi, officials of the contractor firm 'Ircon', Panambur DySP Kaushalendra Kumar and the officials of the national highway authority, in the evening of Tuesday, May 27, after a serial protest against the apathy of the concerned in respect of the highway widening work was initiated in the morning. This committee, to be headed by the DC, will have two DKRHUHS office bearers and an official each from the city corporation and Ircon. The committee will inspect the works once every 15 days, it was informed.

The serial protest programme undertaken by the Samithi entered it's second day on Wednesday, with the Samithiorganising a dharna near Baikampady by-pass junction in the morning. Deputy tahsildar Nityanand M, national highway project director Prashant N Gavasani and Ircon company officials met the protestors and promised to meet their demands. Samithi president Dinesh Ulepady, secretary Subhaschandra Shetty, human rights commission member Damodar Shetty, Rotarian Dr Arvind Bhat and several others participated in the dharna.

DKRHUHS president Dinesh Ulepady informed, that it has been decided to withdraw the serial protests proposed by the Samithi in view of the assurance given to meet their demands. In the evening, senior officials of the national highway authority and Ircon company inspected the ongoing highway widening work, at various places. Senior police officials and the committee officials were present on the occasion.
