Mangaluru/Udupi, Oct 12: Despite intermittent rainfall, temperatures continue to remain above normal across coastal Karnataka, with residents experiencing uncomfortable heat and humidity from the morning hours.

For the past three to four days, parts of Dakshina Kannada district, including Beltangady, Sullia and Bantwal taluks, have been receiving moderate rainfall in the evenings. However, temperatures have not declined and have instead been rising over the past week. Udupi district has also been experiencing similar conditions.

Mangaluru is currently recording temperatures of around 34 degrees Celsius, while Udupi is witnessing temperatures of around 33 degrees Celsius. These conditions are expected to continue over the next few days. Although rainfall provides temporary relief, the heat returns once the sun comes out. People travelling outdoors, particularly during the afternoon, are facing increased heat.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in Udupi district during the first 10 days of October were as follows: On October 1, the maximum temperature was 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 24.1 degrees Celsius. On October 2, the maximum was 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 25 degrees Celsius. On October 3, the maximum was 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 26.2 degrees Celsius. On October 4, the maximum was 32.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 26.1 degrees Celsius.

On October 5, the maximum temperature was 31 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 25 degrees Celsius. The same temperatures were recorded on October 6. On October 7, the maximum was 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 24.5 degrees Celsius. On October 8, the maximum was 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 24 degrees Celsius. On October 9, the maximum was 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 25 degrees Celsius. On October 10, the maximum was 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 24 degrees Celsius.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, temperatures have remained above normal over the past week. On October 8, Mangaluru recorded a maximum temperature of 33.7 degrees Celsius, which was 2.8 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was 24.6 degrees Celsius.

Relative humidity stood at 81% at 8.30 am, adding to the discomfort caused by the heat. The combination of high temperatures and moisture in the air has made conditions particularly humid.

The rising temperatures along the coast could also affect the coming winter, with the possibility of a less severe cold season this year. Temperatures could rise to between 40 and 44 degrees Celsius during February and March, according to weather analysts.

The current rise in temperatures has been attributed to El Niño and changing weather patterns. Hot winds could also affect the coastal region during the coming summer.

Weather analysts have stressed the need to create awareness about environmental protection and water conservation in view of the possibility of intense summer heat.
