Arms, cough syrup seized by BSF in Bengal


Kolkata, Sep 10 (IANS): Border Security Force personnel on Sunday seized three home-made pistols and ammunitions along with 125 bottles of banned cough syrup Phensedyl from the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal's Nadia district, a BSF official said.

Acting on a tip off, BSF troopers from Mehrani outpost of Nadia's Krishnanagar sector, laid an ambush in the area and challenged three persons approaching the border on Sunday afternoon, the official said.

"The ambush party tried to nab the smugglers but they managed to flee taking advantage of the thick forest in the area. On thorough search, BSF seized three country made pistols of 8mm calibre, two 8mm cartridges along with other forms of ammunition in three plastic bags. 125 bottles of Phensedyl were also seized," BSF South Bengal Frontier's Deputy Inspector General ARPS Jaswal said in a press release.

"The seized items were handed over to the local police statio for further legal action," he added.

BSF's South Bengal Frontier zone haas so far seized 12 home-made pistols, nine magazines and several rounds of live ammunition during different raids in 2017.
