Colva Tense Over Molestation Attempt

Times of India

COLVA, Jun 2: Tension gripped Colva late Sunday evening after two migrant labourers allegedly tried to outrage the modesty of a 13-year-old girl.

According to the teenager's mother, the incident occured at around 8 pm at Grande Vanelim, in front of the under construction L & L Florida Gardens project.

"We were returning home when suddenly two labourers came out from a building and accosted us. One of them gagged me and the other began pulling my daughter towards the building. My daughter's screams saved us," said the mother. Hearing the girl's cries, villagers from the area rushed to their rescue. But by then, the labourers had disappeared into the construction site.

News of the incident spread like wild fire and within minutes a crowd of around 200 people gathered at Grande Vanelim. The Colva police too rushed to the scene. The locals demanded that all the migrant be flushed out and the builder be called to site. The police rounded up more than 100 workers.

It may be recalled that it was demanded at the Colva gram sabha held last week that no labourers should stay overnight at construction sites in the village.
