Udupi: Former State Minister Releases Book on ‘Lambani Life and Culture’

Udupi, Jun 3: Former state minister D T Lalitanarayan Naik, released the book on ‘Lambani life and culture’ authored by Dr D B Nayak, on Monday June 2 evening, during the programme organized at the aegis of Karnataka Folklore, Karnataka manuscript department, Bangalore and Manipal Academy of General Education, held at Ravindra auditorium of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) College, here.

Former minister D T Lalitanarayan Naik, speaking at the occasion, said that Lambani tribes are basically shepherds who lead nomad existence, inherited rich culture, skills and other virtues and are known to worship Lord Krishna since ages.  Nomad community still wanders throughout the year, in order to gather only during festive occasions at one location.  Karnataka has nearly 28 lac population of Lambani, out of which very few managed to get literates.  As they still migrate, they have no security while their girls are subjected to oppression.  However, government, social and voluntary organizations are doing their yeomen service in creating awareness on the plight of Lambanis’ at the modern era brings solace to the community. 



Manuscript director Usha Suresh, author Dr D B Naik, manuscript scholar Dr P K Rathod, Kuvempu University Folklore Study Centre r Basavaraj Nelvinwar, Manipal Academy of General Education registrar K K Pai, MGM College principal Dr Jayaprakash Mavinakuli, MGM College Folklore Study director H Krishna Bhat, were present at the occasion.
