Mangalore: Heavy Rain Lashes Mulky, Monsoon Moving Closer to Coast

Mangalore, Jun 3: The meteorological department has already predicted the onset of monsoon in the district within the next two days and that the coastal belt of the state and southern hinterlands would receive heavy rains coupled with speeding gales.

The Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner has warned the fishermen to be abundantly cautious while venturing into the sea, in view of the possibility of heavy rains and wind.

The city received 16.3 mm of rain on Sunday June 1 night and the day temperature recorded a reduction of four to five degrees. Mulky received heavy rains coupled with lightning on Sunday midnight. There have been reports of damage caused by lightning. The compound of a well owned by Ramanath Suvarna in Kolachekambla was smashed due to lightning and some electronic goods and electric connection to his house got burnt in the process. Several telephones in Mulky and surrounding villages too have stopped working.
