Panaji, Jun 3: SEZ virodhi manch (SVM), a non-government organisation, opposing special economic zones in the state has threatened to revive its agitation, if state government fails to denotify three industrial enclaves which are approved and notified.

"The worst fears of the SEZ Virodhi Manch are confirmed with the Central Government intimating that it cannot  denotify the three SEZ notified for Goa. The SVM has always doubted the sincerity of the government regarding the scrapping of Special Economic Zones in Goa," SVM's convenor Charles Fernandes said.

The organization had launched anti-SEZ campaign in the state, before the state government announced scrapping of SEZs in the state.

"Five months after its public declaration to scrap the SEZs, the State government has neither revoked the June 2006 SEZ Policy nor has it instituted CBI inquiry against the obvious fraud of the SEZs in the state," he said.

The organization had also filled FIR against Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), accusing the government-run body of indulging in fraud to allot land for SEZs.

"The state police is yet to register the FIR against the fraud by GIDC based on the complaint made on October 22,  2007. All this points to the obvious abetment of the crime," he said.

Fernandes said that the State government is totally inactive in canceling the allotments made to SEZ companies by GIDC when there was no SEZ policy in the state.

"Right from the start, SVM has been demanding that the SEZ Act be denotified as it goes against the basic principles of the Constitution," he said.
