Udupi, Jun 4: Ore-laden trucks continue to throw out of gear the traffic on National Highway 17 while also endangering the lives of the citizens, irrespective of whether the trucks are on the move or stranded by the roadside after developing snags.

Ten people travelling in a tempo carrying piligrims were injured after their vehicle hit a truck loaded with ore that had been parked by the roadside near Posar in Katpady, on Monday night. The injured are from Bangalore. All the injured are being treated at a  hospital here and are out of danger.

The ore trucks, the movement of which was restricted on account of election, have resumed the task of creating acute problems to other vehicle drivers, by moving slowly, refusing to allow them to overtake, or suddently coming to a halt without giving signals.

One such truck hit a roadside electric pole and turned turtle in Muloor on Tuesday June 3, after its driver lost control over the vehicle. Electricity supply to several areas in Kaup region was affected. The  driver is said to have been trying to avoid an oncoming vehicle when the mishap occured. MESCOM officials later replaced the pole and restored the electricity supply.

Another ore truck crashed into the compound wall of the MESCOM office near Basrur Cross in Kundapur on Tuesday evening. The truck was moving towards Byndoor when the it swerved to the right and smashed the compound wall and the gate to the ground. No one was hurt in the accident.
