Mlore: Canara College Former Principal Prof B V Upadhyaya No More

Mangalore, Jun 6: Prof Belle Vasudev Upadhyaya (63), who led Canara College in the city in the capacity of principal for about 25 years, died here on Thursday June 5 owing to illness. He is survived by wife Kamala Upadhyaya, son Dr Chetan and a daughter.

Upadhyaya had joined the said college as a lecturer in the department of zoology in 1973, the year in which Canara College was founded. He became its principal in the year 1978. Upadhyaya, who was a member of the Mangalore University's senate as well as the academic council, was a sportsman, good communicator and organizer. Upadhyaya was very popular among his peers and students alike, because of his pleasant demeanour, active personality and friendliness. He was also involved in social service through the Lions Club in which he functioned in different capacities.

    Upadhyaya-sir was indeed a very down to earth and lively person, it is indeed a great loss to the student community. I pray that his soul rest in peace.

    It is indeed difficult to imagine that Prof Uphadyaya is no more.He used to fillall the students with a senese ofconfidenceand can do that would linger long.His pride,passion and performance was there for everybody to see.That he was a leader and could motivate everybody is indubitable.On this sad occassion I sincerely pray that his souul rest in peace and his family have the strenghth to bearthis irreparable loss.
