Mangaluru: Country is facing economic emergency – Ivan D’Souza

Mangaluru Sep 30: “The country's economy is in emergency stage since the demonetisation of currency notes,” said Chief Whip of Legislative Council Ivan D Souza.

Addressing media here on Saturday September 30, Ivan D Souza said, "Today the country's economic condition has worsened and has become the talking point after the implementation of demonetisation and GST. Those were the bad decisions made by the central government which had huge impact on farmers and small scale industries. Prime Minister Modi had said that demonetisation will help in bringing back the black money, but now the Indian economy has been completely affected. GDP has come down to 3.7 %,”

“Even former minister Yashwanth Sinha quoted that demonetisation was a bad decision by the central government. Subramanian Swamy has also submitted 16-page letter to Modi condemning the same,” he added.

“New employment is not generated. Unemployment is rising in the country. During the 2014 elections, Modi had promised to give jobs 10 million people but today it has not even crossed to 1 lac. Petroleum price has been skyrocketing on every day basis. At present the price has reached up to Rs 70 per litre,” he informed.

“Now the central government is set to introduce bullet train, when they cannot even run normal trains properly. Trains derail every now and then claiming several lives. They are not even bothered to repair existing infrastructure. 22 died in stampede in Mumbai yesterday. Bullet train will benefit only 10% of train users. What about other 90% of train users?” he questioned.

“Whatever development takes place is India only benefits high profiled people, but not the ordinary people.” Ivan said.

Government help to the needy was distributed by Ivan D’Souza during the occasion.

Implementation of demonetization and GST was in the best interest of the nation. The economic slow down was anticipated, because India's economy was partially underground cash base economy which was hit hard by the implementation of demonetization and GST. The result is increase in unemployment and decrease in GDP. This is a temporary scenario. India has gone through worst economic situation from 1947 to 1993 because of bad policies such as Swadeshi, Non-alliance, Licence Raj etc., combined with tough bureaucracy. Remember the days where one had to wait 2 years to get Ambassador car, 9 years to get Vespa scooter or 5 years to get even a telephone line. I had to obtain a license from post office to own a small transistor radio then. If moved my telephone from right side of the table to left side, I was subject to prosecution by the P & T department. Globalization has opened the doors for prosperity in India.

Today, India is sitting over $400 billion foreign exchange reserve as against the economic bankruptcy like situation which took place in 1992, where RBI had to pledge gold from its reserve to London Bank to raise merely $200 millions to pay bills. No doubt, India's economy will bounce back stronger than ever before. One may not see the flames now, but the red coal fire is there !

It is my opinion that the GST should have been implemented before the demonetization. Before implementing the demonetization, the following policies should have been put in place:

    1. One person, one bank account.
    2. All citizen over 18 must have one bank account.
    3. Exchange of currency only by depositing old notes in individual's bank account.
    4. Ban on opening new bank account during the 50 days exchange period.
    5. NRIs should have allowed to exchange old notes to the amount they were allowed to take out of the country on their first return after the demonetization.

Personally I know many noted Economists from last few decades. These Economists are well known at national and even international level. Their general view is that Mr. Modi is the first Prime Minister of India who took decisive steps to control black money, control irrational hike of property prices; these both are generated by Congress governments at the Center and at the State level and has been major problem to the working class. Modi government has taken proper steps to irradiate the poverty at all India level, also like western democracies has began taxation system...

I wonder where esquire Ivan D' Souza learned his economics.

    Ivan DSOUZA
To talk about Indian economy is a too big issue for a person like you who do not even understand it. First can you please talk and fix the problems of Mangaloreans who face deaths due to f bad roads, poor infrastructure, filthy markets, non availability of electricity, water and unhealthy conditions of public hospitals. Address the vehicle parking and undisciplined vehicle movements in Mangalore. First solve at your root level and start thinking big at national level.

Facts about Mangalore pumpwell flyover construction. This is an engineering marvel never attempted before. It's the first hand made modern flyover in India. About 4-5 highly 'skilled' masons are building this brick by brick with bare hands and minimum tools. When the work gets completed by year 2040 or 2050, it will be one of the most amazing 'historical' monument ever created, which will not only serve pedestrians but also serve cattles. Mangaloreans are fortunate to to be living here to witness this masterpiece

Rightly said. I wish I had the mobile numbers of all local representatives (both BJP and Congress) so that they are aware what is lacking within their areas.
I would request the representatives to identify the faults within their areas, push the contractors to complete the projects within a specified period and apply penalties, additionally ensure the payments are released on time :)
ALL LOCAL LEADERS HAVE LIMITED TIME TO PROVE THEMSELVES IF THEY WANT TO BE ELECTED FOR THE NEXT TERM OR NOT.

First tell y (our) CM to stop BHAGYA'S and create jobs first. With your so called Bhagya's, people work only for 3 days!in a week, this the fact in Karnataka. Moral of the story do not elect congress or bjp as both are husband and wife party , they fight till they go to bed and make ullu of the voters.

Congress in the state wants to dry river Netravathi and make dakshina kannada a desert.

Both these parties should not elected in majority , the votes should be split between various parties.

Sachidanand, Yes there were scams when congress was in power, But Demonitisation was nothing short of the biggest , idiotic scam. Despite the scam by congress, they never brought the country economy to this doomed level. Feku will ensure that the country s economy will fall to such a level , that it will never recover for decades to come. Common sense should have dictated that almost 80% of the people deal in cash during transactions & not credit cards , like foreign countries. Such a foolish move & surprisingly , there was a lot of chest thumping, & pompous celebration , just like India shining campaign , Alas, this rhetoric was short lived, Feku has been totally exposed for what he is a pukka uneducated politician , trying to lead the country , with only one thing in mind , find fault with the previous govt. thats all.
