Bantwal, Jun 10: Former minister B Nagaraj Shetty and former MLA Padmanabha Kottary along with several other party colleagues, rode bicycles through the streets of Bantwal on Monday June 9 as a mark of protest against the UPA government. This unique way of agitating was organized by the BJP leaders to register their protest against the price hike of petroleum products brought in to effect by the union government, which they termed as unscientific.
Shetty felt that it would have been better for the UPA government at the centre to step down instead of expressing helplessness in curbing the price rise. He also called upon the left parties to withdraw support to the coalition government instead of staging street dramas and dubbing them as protests.
BJP leaders former MLA A Rukmaiah Poojary, district BJP general secretary Nalin Kumar Kateel, zilla panchayat vice-president Jayashree Kodandoor and ex-MLA Padmanabha Kottary, addressing a gathering after the protest, lambasted the union government for the price hike and said that it was playing with the lives of poor people.
Zilla panchayat member M Tungappa Bangera, Vittal BJP unit former president Kodman Kanthappa Shetty and others were present.
