LG approves Delhi government's higher education loan scheme

New Delhi, Oct 5 (IANS): Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has approved the Delhi government's students higher education loan scheme, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said here on Thursday.

Sisodia said in a tweet that the scheme has been cleared by the Lt. Governor and added that it will help thousands of students and parents.

The AAP-led Delhi government had started the scheme two years back to provide loans to students for higher education, even if they didn't have any property or land as security.

This year, the scheme was extended to Delhi students pursuing courses outside Delhi in government recognised institutions.

Last month, Sisodia said Baijal has blocked the scheme and asked the government to seek opinion of the central government on the issue, which Sisodia said would delay disbursal of loans by two to four years.

Later, Baijal attacked the government and said that his advice given to the AAP government on the scheme was misconstrued as disapproval and this misinformation was spread in the media.
